PTA Mobile Registration Tax

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) requires all mobile devices to be registered under the DIRBS system. Unregistered devices are eventually blocked from the local network. When you import a mobile phone or purchase one in Pakistan, you must pay a one-time registration tax based on the device value.

The tax varies based on your identification method (CNIC for residents, Passport for visitors) and the declared value of the device. For expensive flagship phones valued over PKR 100,000, a 17% tax on the device value applies regardless of ID type.

Registration Deadlines

  • On Passport: within 30 days from the first use of the SIM in the mobile phone.
  • On CNIC: within 60 days from the first use of the SIM in the mobile phone.
