What Is Zakat?
Zakat (زكاة) is an obligatory charity Muslims must pay once a year if their wealth exceeds the Nisab threshold and remains above that level for one lunar year. The standard Zakat rate is:
2.5% (1/40th) of total eligible wealth
This calculator helps you determine that amount instantly.
What Is Nisab for Zakat?
Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth you must have before Zakat becomes mandatory.
There are two Nisab values:
- Gold Nisab
- Equal to 87.48 grams or 7.5 tola of gold
- Silver Nisab
- Equal to 612.36 grams or 52.5 tola of silver
Most scholars today recommend silver Nisab for personal wealth because:
- It is lower
- It makes more people eligible to pay Zakat
- It helps more poor people
However, you are free to choose, our calculator supports both.
